Quicksilver Concert-Flamin’ Groovies adjunct mailer (FD118-A-PC) 1968 Avalon Ballroom (San Francisco CA) Very RARE and collectible
The Flamin’ Groovies card was a pre-concert mailer for the Family Dog presentation. The group played with Quicksilver Messenger Service in the Avalon Ballroom – San Francisco, CA) May 10, 1968.
The card was never mailed, but was handed out at the concert. It therefore had a very limited distribution, and an even smaller retention rate.
I especially fancied this one, and had it on my wall. The tape marks and some residue from this are visible on on the rear. The Artist was Paul Brown.
CONCERT PERFORMERS: Quicksilver Messenger Service, Ace of Cups, The Flamin’ Groovies, and Retina Circus doing the lights. Concert dates were May 10, 1968 -May 12, 1968 at the Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco.
“The Flamin Groovies first rose to fame in San Francisco in the late ’60s. Their hot-wired sound and retro outlook put them on the outskirts of the San Francisco scene at the time. They had little interest in the psychedelic music that was all the rage in the Bay Area. Instead, the Groovies celebrated the joys of first-era rock & roll and vintage R&B, and the greasy raunch of early-’60s rock.
They never let go of their passionate belief that rock’s formative period was where the music spoke most clearly and powerfully. And at their best, the Flamin’ Groovies could match their influences for sheer passion, power, and songcraft.”
Cardboard backed, bubble wrapped, boxed and shipped USPS.

Provenance:
While living in San Francisco from 1966-1968, I collected many Haight-Ashbury concert cards. Most of what I have, however, were sent by Bill Graham in 1968. I had asked him about selling concert posters in my soon-to-open Baltimore bookstore, The Aquarian Age Bookstore. They sent me a postcard from each concert as a poster sample. I decorated my walls and journals with some, while others were stored in a zippered leather binder. Despite my many travels, it’s astonishing that they’re still in such fine condition.
