GYANARTHI BOOKS GEMS & COLLECTIBLES

A LITTLE ABOUT ME ...

Gyanarthi Books has a long history – albeit with different names and appearing in different places.  It began with my first bookshop in 1968, and continued on with two other real-world stores and various online ventures. Several of them are pictured below.
I’m known as Bennett, my given name, and as Gyanarthi, a spiritual name given to me by Osho. Osho was an enlightened master from India who was known for a long time as Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh.
My personal story began in 1941, so it is a long one… It’s been one of inquiry, and discovery in my earliest childhood and continues on today.
I will be sharing bits of this story and more, in the BLOG which i think of as the “Back Story.”

AND A BIT ABOUT MY SHOP…

All the products you will see here are from shops I have had in the past or items that have collected around me during a long and interesting life.
I have, during this time, realized that real connection and community are what is important. And my shops, both brick & mortar, and on-line reflected this. And now, I’m offering my wares here.
I hope you enjoy looking around the site, and please message me with any questions, requests for more photos, information about a product, or just to say hello. Cheers!!

WHAT INSPIRES ME

In 1966, I left what I knew of my life behind, got a drive-away car, and headed West.
I didn’t have a destination in mind, but once I got to San Francisco, and most especially after I discovered Haight-Ashbury, I knew I was home. It was like a blessing then… a beginning… that gets brighter and brighter as the years roll on.

I PUZZLED OVER THIS...

TO KNOW IS TO KNOW ALL
NOT TO KNOW ALL IS NOT TO KNOW
TO KNOW ALL
YOU NEED TO KNOW VERY LITTLE
BUT TO KNOW THAT VERY LITTLE
YOU NEED TO FIRST KNOW PRETTY MUCH
