Dane Rudhyar, The Astrology of Personality: A Re-formulation of Astrological Concepts and Ideals, in Terms of Contemporary Psychology and Philosophy, First Edition, Lucis Publishing Company, New York, 1936, 539pp.
This is the true first edition, not to be confused with the David McKay reprint, or further reprints.
Publisher’s original full brown cloth in Fair-Good condition.
The book itself is in Good condition, but for underlining and notations throughout. They are particularly heavy on pages 277-331 (see photos for an example).
Binding is very clean for its age, with moderate rubbing to extremities of spine hinges and very light rubbing to outer corners of boards.
Gilt to spine titling is light but present and readable.
Page edges are clean and unmarked.
Front inner paper hinge has started to split in places but is intact. Same for the rear, where webbing is visible at the bottom and appears strong.
This is Rudhyar’s first book. He wrote throughout his life on his philosophy of life, astrology, and the seeding of a new consciousness about to emerge in the world. Los Angeles in the 1920’s and 30’s, was a hotbed of esoteric activity, and Rudhyar, Alice Bailey (of the Lucis Trust) and many others, recognizable to students today, were at its center.
